A Scottish silver Hutchison clan badge by Hamilton & Inches, Edinburgh, 1945
The badge displays a circular belted garter enclosing the motto ‘MEMOR ESTO’, translated as ‘Be Mindful’, while the crest within shows a stag’s head for clan Hutchison. The reverse has a hinged steel pin and is hallmarked ‘H&I’, Edinburgh, sterling silver, 1945.
Hamilton and Inches was founded in 1866 by Robert Kirk Inches and his uncle James Hamilton. In 1893, the quality of their work was recognised by Queen Victoria and they were presented with a Royal Warrant.
Condition:
There is a small amount of tarnish within the lettering of the motto.
