Valuations
We provide a bespoke valuation service for both insurance and tax purposes, predominantly on silver, jewellery, and items of historical interest.
Valuations are a tailored service depending on the needs of the client. They fall into three main categories: insurance, sale, and inheritance tax or probate.
A valuation for insurance can be used to ensure your policy is fit for purpose, and at times, lower the cost of cover. Ultimately, it offers a form of protection should the worst happen.
We offer a stand-alone valuation for renewal but also a rolling programme of re-valuation when additions or disposals are made.
A valuation for sale is an important part in the selling of any item or collection as it provides the first indication of the best route forward.
It equips the seller with an understanding of current market values and puts them in a stronger position allowing them to sell with confidence.
An often overlooked, yet very important aspect of valuations, is tax planning which ultimately leads to inheritance tax or probate valuations. Having a valuation in place before the latter is needed makes the process simpler and can save on taxes and costs. Working closely with collectors and families at these highly sensitive and personal times is an important aspect of this service.

Our business is experienced in cataloguing single items and collections, and can support individuals or institutions in this area.
A properly researched and catalogued item or collection is a valuable asset. Whether for insurance purposes or to enhance an understanding of your item(s), it provides a lasting legacy for generations to come.
Working closely with the client, we provide professional cataloguing, research, and photography. This can be done on a rolling basis for active and expanding collections or as a single standalone project. Our main areas of expertise are in silver and jewellery but also include wider Scottish material culture.
