Modernist Brooch by E. Dragstead, Denmark

A black enamel brooch of abstract form, framed with an edge of silver. The reverse is stamped ‘HANDMADE EDRAGSTEAD’ for Einar Dragstead, and ‘925 S STERLING’ for sterling silver, together with a hinged pin and C-scroll safety clasp.

Einar Dragstead (1887-1967) was an accomplished goldsmith who’s silversmithing firm became Purveyor’s to the Royal Danish Court. The business had grown from his father’s, Arendt Dragstead, (established in 1854), with the firm E. Dragstead being created in 1923.
