Silver elliptical brooch with a hinged safety clasp. The reverse pin has been designed to be slightly curved which supports a more secure fit once the clasp is closed. The reverse of the brooch is stamped with ‘Hans Hansen’ signature, ‘DENMARK’, ‘115’ and ‘925 S’ for sterling silver together with London import marks for sterling silver and 1968.
Hans Hansen (1884-1940) established his own goldsmithing workshop in Denmark in 1906 initially specialising in holloware and flatware. His son, Karl Gustav, later joined the firm in 1932 and it was subsequently Karl that led the design and production of jewellery. After Hans’s death, the company continued under Karl, later merging with Georg Jensen.
Bent Gabrielsen Pedersen (1928- 2014 ) trained at the Danish College of Jewellery and Silversmithing. He was hired by Hans Hansen in 1953, later becoming the company’s artistic director in 1962. His classic designs during this period focused on elliptical and boomerang shapes.
