An Art Deco Scottish 9ct gold, opal, garnet and pearl brooch by Brook & Sons, Edinburgh, 1920s/30s
The brooch is angular in form with a circular centre section. The upper bar has a collet set oval cabochon opal, while the lower part has a collet set facetted garnet with a pendant freshwater pearl below. The reverse has a hinged pin with a scroll clasp together with an additional safety chain and pin. It is marked ‘B&S, 9ct’.
Brook & Son was an Edinburgh goldsmithing firm based at 87 George Street. It was founded by Alexander James Steel Brook in 1891, with his son William, joining family the business in 1900. The firm are recorded as being goldsmiths to George V and the Royal Company of Archers (the King’s Bodyguard for Scotland).
